Floating Axe

II Kings 6:1-7
Introduction: Read Text
Ask: Has there ever been a time in your life where you remember being closer to God than where you are right now?
If you were asked to share what God has taught you on a supernatural encounter you have had recently, how far back in time would you need to go?
Discuss setting – lumberjacks – axe – prophet Elisha
“He is standing there with just an axe handle! No cutting edge!!”
“If you answered yes”

Three simple truths:
1. Stop living in denial!
You have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen – Rev. 2:4-5
2. Acknowledge
a) Where I lost my spiritual vitality – my cutting edge. NOTE: The guy pointed to the exact spot where the AXE head entered the water.
In order to facilitate what God was to do, Elisha directed him to see, point out, and recognize exactly where the cutting edge was lost!
Ask yourself: “Where did I lose my cutting edge?”
In my:
Ø distractions
Ø disobedience to God’s call
Ø relying on my own power/pride
Ø carelessness/laziness
Ø in my fatigue
Ø in anger/bitterness
Ø a relationship
Ø hobby – cars, hanging out
Ø sports
Ø other

Listen and remember I John 1:9 – Read 6b-7

3. Deal with the Holy Spirit!
Elisha said, “Now pick-it up!” GRAB IT!!
a) Why didn’t God make it float through space, move it through the air and place it on the axe handle for him?
Because when we are willing to: Stop denying, Acknowledge where we lost it, and Go back there,
He will provide the same supernatural power to assist us!
b) All you must do is GRAB IT!!
Matthew 19:26: Jesus said, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
c) Here’s the challenge:
1. Don’t wait around for God to put your cutting edge back in your life.
2. Satan wants you to think your past will always haunt you.
3. You can stand around forever waiting on God while He waits for you!
